Cut Your UK SDR Costs by 60% With a South African EOR Partner

Overview

  • A UK SDR on a median base of about £40,000 costs closer to £46,000 once employer National Insurance and pension are added.
  • The same role in South Africa, employed compliantly through an Employer of Record, lands at roughly £17,000 fully loaded.
  • That is a saving of just over 60% per seat, with no loss of call coverage or English quality.
  • South African reps cover almost your entire working day and the country sits in the top global band for English proficiency.
  • No local entity, no placement fees, one monthly invoice.

What a UK SDR actually costs

Base salary is the figure most sales leaders budget against, and it is the smallest part of the problem.

RepVue’s UK data puts the median SDR base salary at £40,269, with on-target earnings of £60,757. Take the base on its own and add what the employer pays on top of it:

    • Employer National Insurance at 15% on everything above £5,000 a year. On a £40,000 base, that is £5,250.
    • Pension auto-enrolment at a minimum 3% employer contribution on qualifying earnings, roughly another £1,000.

You are at about £46,250 before commission, before a CRM seat and before a desk. Employment Allowance offsets some of the NI bill for eligible employers, but it is a fixed £10,500 pot and a growing sales team works through it fast.

The 2025 change is what tipped the balance for a lot of UK sales leaders. The threshold dropped from £9,100 to £5,000 while the rate rose to 15%, which adds several hundred pounds to every rep you hire.

The same rep in South Africa

PayScale puts the average South African SDR base at around R197,000. Experienced reps running UK and US outbound typically advertise higher, between R300,000 and R400,000.

Budget R330,000 for a strong mid-level hire. At roughly R22 to the pound, that is about £15,000. Add the EOR fee and the local employer contributions (UIF and SDL) and you sit near £17,000 all in.

Cost component UK hire South Africa via EOR
Base salary around £40,000 around £15,000
Employer National Insurance £5,250 none
Pension around £1,000 handled locally
EOR fee n/a included in one monthly invoice
Fully loaded around £46,250 around £17,000

That is a 63% reduction per rep. Across a pod of five, close to £145,000 a year that stays in the business.

Why the saving does not cost you pipeline

Cheap prospecting is easy to buy anywhere. Prospecting that books meetings with UK buyers is harder, and it is where most offshore markets come unstuck.

Live coverage of your day. South Africa runs one to two hours ahead of the UK with no clock changes. A Cape Town team is dialling through your prospects’ full working day, not leaving voicemails overnight.

English that does not slow the call down. The 2025 EF English Proficiency Index ranks South Africa joint 13th out of 123 countries and first in Africa, inside the “very high proficiency” band. Accents are neutral and familiar to British ears.

Commercial habits your buyers recognise. Long-standing ties to the UK mean your reps already understand how British decision-makers expect to be approached on a first call.

What the EOR takes off your plate

You do not need a South African company, a local payroll or an HR function. As your Employer of Record in South Africa, Veridian Global employs the rep on a compliant local contract and handles:

  • PAYE, UIF, SDL and SARS filings
  • BCEA and LRA compliance, leave and statutory benefits
  • Permanent establishment risk for your UK entity
  • Contracts, onboarding and offboarding

You keep the targets, the sequences and the day-to-day management. We keep the employment legal.

Run it against your own numbers

Salary bands shift and so does the rand, so treat the figures above as a starting point rather than a quote. Drop your actual roles into the EOR cost calculator to see a fully loaded number for your team, or look at the pricing page for the fee ladder.
